The Legislature returns to Montgomery on Tuesday to begin its last 10 meeting days. Bedford says critics had complained that his original 43-page bill was too complicated. His new bill is eight pages.

But the individual mandate extends the commerce clause's power beyond economic activity, to economic inactivity. That is unprecedented. While Congress has used its taxing power to fund Social Security and Medicare, never before has it used its commerce power to mandate that an individual person engage in an economic transaction with a private company.  

According to a recent ABC News poll, 80 percent of Americans oppose the recent Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. the Federal Election Commission. I am not surprised, since a common thread runs though this decision and that of Dred Scott v. Sandford in 1857.  

Your March 11 article "Ruling clouds gun laws" reports that the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts has ruled the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution applies only to the federal government and not the states. Does this mean that the other nine amendments of the Bill of Rights also do not apply to the states? In its decision, the SJC has misinterpreted the intent of the amendment and ignored American history.  

For decades, Socialist infiltrators have wormed their way into government, finding a receptive home in the Democrat Party, and chipping away our Constitution bit by bit. Now we see in the present Congress and Obama Administration, to the horror of true Conservative Americans, the culmination of all those decades of corruption and special interests pandering. The Democrat Party is co-opting American government for the perpetuation and everlasting glory of the Democrat Party, and America's People be damne
